Thread: SEO Optimization for Bing, comparing to Google

Bing's SEO algorithm is totally different from Google's. We can do a simple search for the same keyword, and get different results.
Currently the optimization for Bing is a little hard to be made, due to the lack of SEO community in this area. Here are the main factors that are supposed to help a site rank well in Bing :

Backlinks - have a weaker importance, comparing the first 10 results of Bing with the ones from Google, we notice different positioning for same sites. Yet it is unknown if the nofollow attribute does or not matters for Bing.

Link spam - even if you get many quality backlinks, SERPs created by Bing are not much influenced.

Site authority - Bing focuses on older sites or those of organizations, being sure of the information on them. The age is more important to Bing, than to Google.

Page Rank - If Google still gives less importance to a site's PR in SERPs, Bing is not as concerned, as pages with PR 1 can be present in the top 10, higher than those with PR 4-5.

Flash pages are better seen by Bing, while Google's SEO for flash site is a nightmare for webmasters.

Knowing that Bing is new in terms of search engines, and is still in beta period, it can't be certainly said that these are the key elements for optimizing a site for Bing, or not.

Good observations. What I have seen is Bing puts most of the weight on the On Page SEO side. This means a well optimized meta information such as Titles/Descrips/Tags will allow you to rank for most terms in Bing and Yahoo. Google is heavily weighted towards OffPage, backlinks, which yields a more leveraged result based on popularity and relevancy.

If you want to rank higher on Bing:-

• Make your domain age increase
• Try to acquire links from pages with your keywords in the title tag

To be fair both of these tips would help your Google campaign but it seems that more emphasis is put on these factors by Bing.

Yes, my experience also suggests that Bing gives more improtance to
1. Meta tags
2. Site navigation
3. Domain Age and Good interlinking.
