Thread: How to get more comments to your blog

A member of this forum asked me this question on another thread I created about blogging, so I thought instead answering him vague I could create an useful thread for others to see it to. So, here are some tips to get your visitors adding comments on your blog. Of course, you should try as much as you can from those.

1. The simplest way to do that is by asking questions. Include those questions in your posts, or even better, include them in your headers, this way you'll probably get a higher number of comments.

2. Invite users to participate to your post. Complete it with something like "feel free to add more", "if you know something more about this leave a comment" etc. Use your imagination.

3. Always comment on your blog and interact with users. Do not ignore their questions or they'll never use that "comment section" ever.

4. Do not be defensive! People are prone to mistakes, so when somebody says:"hey, that's a grammar mistake" do not jump in arguing with him, accept his opinion and more than that, thank him for letting you know. Don't become a flamer. :)

5. Create controversial posts. One friend of mine wrote a post about some Bible's errors, you wouldn't imagine how many responses that post had. Having a different opinion, a controversial one in fact, doesn't necesarilly means that you're a troll. Tip: it isn't a necessary thing to believe what you write.... ;)

6. Always reward good comments with a "good one" comment. That's it, so easy but with a great impact on visitors.

7. Create good content so that it deserves a comment. This should be probably rule number one. :)

8. Leave comments on other blogs. That way you could attract comments from those bloggers also.

9. Be friendly and make your visitors feel welcomed to your blog.

10. Check other blogs and see what kind of posts created more rumours and comments. Use it as a starter for a future post...

Anyway, I pretty much do everything on this list but I still get low comments on my blog. I guess I need to advertise my blog more.

Writing thought-provoking entries is the best way to illicit comments. Also, posting controversial articles can certainly get you more comments, both positive and negative.

I think announcing your blog comments are now do follow is also a great way..sure you may get some spammers at first but they are easily weeded out.
