Although if you use captcha, intelligent question, then you can open comments, your blog won't get spammed.

I think comment option should not be closed as it close the interaction of your readers and in case of getting spam comments the blogger should delete that comments.

do not close it it brings up "fresh" content to your old posts

install a good anti bot and anti spam plugin thats enough

Closing Blog comment is not a good idea, it may leads to decrease of fame of those site.

as i voted no, well as for the spammer u can control those post or comments so the spam will be deleted.

What advantage is there to closing comments for your older posts?

Advantages are, you have a continuously updated pages via those comments being posted on your blog posts. If spamming is your problem, instead of closing comment boxes on your blog posts, you can actually set up certain spam removing software like Akismet, which is what being used on wordpress platforms, or you can moderate yourself the blog comments being posted on your blog.

But deleting spam is time consuming especially if you have a lot of websites, I tend to close comments on my blogs to save wating time deleting spam.

Closing off comments is completely counter-intuitive to gaining more traffic. Open comments and just moderate them if you really need to. If that takes too much time, look for plugins to do it for you.
