One major goal as a blogger is to receive comments on their posts, leaving comments open is a way to open for conversation on a blog post, however, closing comments on older posts is a good idea due to all of the heavy spamming that goes on.

What advantage is there to closing comments for your older posts?

The last thing you want to do is to have a first time visitor to your site come in on an old post, get really excited about responding to it, just to find the comments are off. Assuming they are not the ultra determined type to go seeking out your comment form or other contact information, they may just leave and you will not get the chance to interact with them and possibly convert them into a loyal reader.

i don't see anything interest to close blog comments. You should try to find more advanced anti spam tools.

Akismet and some work and the job is done,right?

One of the most interesting things of blog is comment function. With blog, not only writer can express their ideas, but they can also collect other ideas and suggestions from readers. I like reading opposite blog comments because they can give me a bigger overview; and sometimes they are really funny, really.

If closing blog comment, the blog becomes normal website. Yes, web 2.0 becomes web 1.0.

That’s pretty crazing that someone would pay that much for comments – it’s exactly as you said; sit down for 2 hour or so and you’ll be at 50 in no time.
Additionally, by outsourcing this you don’t open the chance to build a personal network that will go well beyond just gaining backlinks.

I have to say that you should keep them on if you have adequate spam protection. There is a lot of content that will stay relevant for a very long time. Sometimes people just want to comment.

If you are using the dofollow tag as a way to get traffic though, you might want to consider shutting them off after so long. After a couple hundred comments on a single post, it really gets hard enough to care whether its a real comment or spam.

If you do not want to maintain any further comments or do not want to see what the visitors want to say about your blog, you can close the comments. Why don't you go for more better filters.

I think comments must be allowed because they signify the popularity of the site..but spams must be deleted
