Google blog search manual ping
Google Blog Search is become more popular after the blog search comes out of beta with new and improve features and home page. Google Blog search home page now consisted with the latest hot trends from blogs all over the world. You can exploit the home page of blog search from http://blogsearch.google.com
The blog search is categorized into various topics like, Politics, US, World, Business, Technology, Video Games, Science, Entertainment, Movies, Television and Sports.
It is recommend that you set up automatic pinging for your blog, so that it will be index in google blog search as soon as possible. If your blog is not index in Google blog search, you can also submit it manually for inclusion here: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping Google always periodically crawl and refresh manually-added blogs, but resubmitting ensures that the latest posts is index.

Pinging
Just a tip following on from the above.
if you are using Wordpress for blogging, it will ping everytime something is edited and too many pings in a short time can be harmful for your SEO efforts.
I found a free plug in calle 'maxblogpress ping optimiser'. It allows you to add many pinging sites and it will ping automatically when a new post is published but not when minor edits are done. You can force a ping, however, if it has been a long time since new content was added.
Here are the ping URLs I have set mine to auto-ping:
http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://bblog.com/ping.php
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2

But is ping still really necessary giving how fast Google update blogposts this days, usually when I post stuff to my blog, within about 5 minutes or so, its in Google SERPs, do I still need to ping all the above serve when I create a new blogpost?

Temi, I don't really know the answer for that question. Maybe you don't need it for Google but the others? Who knows? I just set it to ping those urls as I wanted to be sure that info was flowing to all concerned when I posted. Also, I didn't want excessive pinging which that plug in controls to avoid a 'spam' alert.
