Thread: How can you transform the tags into the categories in Wordpress

Starting with the version 2.3, Wordpress has inserted a native support for the tags, but also an option to convert the existing categories into tags.

For Wordpress 2.3 - 2.7 there is a very simple to return tu categories (partially or tottaly). in order to do this you need phpMyAdmin.

In the table wp_term_taxonomy you have to change the propriety "taxonomy" from "post_tag" in "category". Before you do this please made a backup before.

For Wordpress 2.7 + there is the possibility to convert tags into categories from the admin interface, the URL where to do this change is: "/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wp-cat2tag&step=3"
You can convert all the tags into categories or vice-versa or you can select a few tags to be converted. Also Wordpress identify the tags that have the same name as a category with an asterisk.

I have been using the tags feature for about a year now, its quite good for SEO.

I totally agree with you about this, tags can help you very much in the websites driven built on wordpress. Also in Google the pages of the tags are very well indexed.
