Facebook Launching "Want" Button - Analogue Of "Like" Button

Facebook is reporting about testing a new “Want” button plugin that will be similar to “Like” button which is used almost all across the web.

Tom Waddington, developer from Cut Out + Keep said that this new plugin has been added to the Facebook JavaScript SDK as an XFBML tag – <fb:wants>. At now “Want” button is not publicly listed on Facebook social plugins and the button will only work on Open Graph objects.

“Want” button plugin could add to Facebook’s already huge user demographics database. Users will let the biggest social network to create a database that may allow advertisers to target users carefully and more accurately and could help Facebook in its competition with Google’s search based advertising model. With Open Graph, developers able to create their own “want” actions but users must be authorized a third-party app to generate stories on Timeline and News feed. This plugin will increase Facebook’s “Like” button which forms the core of the company’s ‘Sponsored Stories’ feature.

“Although publishing “Want” actions is currently disabled by Facebook, Waddington was able to implement a version of the button on his own site. Clicking the Want button returns an error for now.” – InsideFacebook said.

But Facebook replied: “We're always testing new Platform features, however we have nothing new to announce."

    Facebook are quite good at innovating and being in tune with the web generation, their Like button and making Facebook login a universally login ID on the web has been extremely successful, lets see if their Want button will catch on as well.
