Yahoo's decline seem to be hastening as both Google and Bing seem to have have grab market share of the once number 1 search engine. Bing first overtook Yahoo as the number 2 search engine in December when it edged Yahoo into number 3 position for the first time. Most people speculated that the increase in Bing market share will not last but it seem to have managed to hold on to the position and even strengthens it if only by 0.1%.

Here is how the search engines and their market share currently stand:

Google - Number 1 with 66.2% market share
Bing - Number 2 with 15.2% of market share
Yahoo - Number 3 with 14.1 % of market share
ASK - Number 4 with 3% of market share
AOL - Number 5 with 1.6% of market share

The above figures were released by ComScore. The figures are based on US search engine users. More information about US search engine users from ComSore follows: Of the 17.8 billion explicit core searches that was conducted in January 2012, Google Sites account for 11.8 billion. Microsoft Sites with 2.7 billion searches, Yahoo! Sites with 2.5 billion, Ask Network with 527 million and AOL, Inc. with 277 million.

If done correctly, e-mail marketing could be cost effective and produce good results, you should be sure you avoid these common mistakes.

Avoid Emailing your Subscribers too often: Everyone hates spams, updating your subscribers too often technically look spamming even if you are not. It may get to annoy your subscribers, which they may stop paying attention to your messages thus leading to a high unsubscribe rate.

Matching Your Subject Line to Your Email Content: The subject line is the most important part of your message. If it isn’t a attract and strong it won't motivate your subscribers enough to open the email. You should make sure your subject line relates to the body of your message infact in the early part of the body of the message.

Avoid overuse of spammy words and phrases in your subject lines. Subscribers don’t like tricked to do a thing, if you trick your readers into opening your emails, it may lead to mistrust, damage your reputation and even the respect they have in you.
So make sure your subject line relates to your email’s message and a reader should be able to tell what the subject line was all about after reading the first few paragraphs of your email.
Under the CAN-SPAM Act, you are legally required to include a subject line that is authentic and not misleading.

Write Your Emails in a Person-To-Person Style: Avoid using Queen’s English when writing your emails. Write as if you’re talking personally to someone you know well and your emails will be welcomed. Proofread your messages before you send them out and take care of Typos and poorly-worded sentences which could create an unprofessional image of your company. Keep your email easy to read, short, and concise with a focussed theme.

Indirectly you want to market your products and services, but you need to provide your readers with quality content they can benefit from. Just like a magazine, of course magazines do have advertisements, but they also give their readers great content so balance it up to maximize the results.

Unsubscribe Button: Not having an unsubscribe button on an email is a significant mistake. People either want to read your emails or they do not, it’s important to have unsubscribe button on your email or subscription letters as some times user subscribe it for some upcoming information and if they do not want to get it more, then they can easily unsubscribe it by clicking on unsubscribe button.

A reader unsubscribing your update is actually doing you a favour because it better to unsubscribe to something you will never read, It helps them clean up their list!
You shouldn't send emails out without an 'unsubscribe link' included, this is a legal requirement in the UK and helps to build trust with your recipients whilst cleaning your database.

All in all don’t just send your email marketing campaign to every email address you come across. Build your own email list, you will know who subscribes to it and is really interested in receiving your offers and newsletters. When you target a demographic of your subscriber list with specific offers you will likely to have a higher success rate.

Wolfram Alpha a computational search engine to find answer unlike other search engine such as Google and Bing which add more semantic understanding into general search engines, Wolfram Alpha rely on structured databases of knowledge.

According to the news, the premium version has the ability to search using images, files and power to analyze data, and graphics which will cost $4.99/month(£3.15) but $2.99 (£1.88) for students, with the ability to make sense of complex data sets. Although there will be a free trial period when its launched.

Already the free results from Wolfram Alpha come with some simple graphs and basic results but the pro version will give room more to control over these by allowing you to show different, relevant datasets on the same chart, 3D interactive objects and customisable graphs.

The pro product will also give you an extended keyboard which will allow you to use all manner of alternative symbols, mathematical signs and the Greek alphabet.

Mr Wolfram said
"What's happening is you are giving freeform input, and Wolfram Alpha is creating a program on the fly to create the interactivity that you use,"

We often get this question at UK webmaster Forum, how do I build links and how do I know what a quality link is. Here are some answers to the question of link building and accessing the quality of a link.

Blog post . Contribute to a blogs in the niche you are building links for. For example if you are building links for a dating site, go to dating related blogs and offer to be a guest blogger.

Blog commenting. Comment in a blog relating to the niche you are building links for. It should be a sensible comment with decent word count or else your comment will be considered spam and deleted.

Articles Directory. I am not very sure about this because most article directories are spammy, if you can find one of high quality, it may be useful to add a few unique articles. Don't submit one article to several articles directory though, that is now very good.

Web Directory. Again, web directory in your niche are the best, if you cannot find niche web directory, they general directory may be a good substitute.

Link Exchange . If you have more than one website, 3 way link exchange is the best way to get very strong links. Homepage or contextual link exchange in particular can be very effective.

Social Media
Facebook. Create a Facebook page and link to the site you are promoting from it. You also need to find a way of making that Facebook page strong (Get a lot of Likes etc)
Squido - Create a Squido page and link from it.
YouTube . Video on YouTube and other video sharing site and of course link from them to the site you are building links for.#

Determining what a quality link is.

There are several ways to determine the quality of a site or page.

MozRank - This is one way of finding out how strong a page or site is
OBL - The number of out going back link from a site or a page matters, if there are too many outgoing links, you DON'T want a link on that page
Alexa - Though Alexa is not a respected way of determining anything, but at least it will give you and indication of whether the site is alive or dead.
Most of the time in this forum we are always discussing search optimisation (SEO) related issues. As we all know, PPC is the other side of the search engine marketing coin. Looking at building a PPC campaign from the ground, one of our members wrote a nice intro to creating Google PPC campaign,, excerpts from the tutorial can be found below.

To get the most out of Google Adwords some tasks should be carried out online. For most day-to-day tasks it is far easier to download and install 'Google Adwords Editor' free .
Whenever you make changes in Adwords editor they must be posted to Google before you close the programme otherwise they will not take effect. Upon opening Adwords Editor, you must get recent changes to ensure all the information you are viewing is up to date. It is important to make changes several hundred at a time rather than in the thousands, Google does not like massive changes in one go and adverts can be limited immediately for several days after large alterations to campaigns.

Create
Two campaigns run at once. General Test Bed and High Performers, these will be live. A third campaign named Trash Can is permanently paused for unproductive keywords.

Specific Adgroups are created for new keywords which are similar in type (i.e. Adgroup 'Dating Sites' for all keywords relating to dating sites).

To begin with the bid amount of each adgroup is set to a minimum and increased tentatively.

Create new keywords monthly.

New keywords can be found by using the Keyword Tool function in Adwords online. Choose a keyword from the High Performers list. Search for suggested new keywords and then export the results, these must then be analyzed to filter out the keywords which bear no resemblance to the trade.

Keywords need to be set to active, as does the ad-group and the campaign (apart from 'Trash Can'). These can all be paused or activated at any one time, individually or as a whole. After all new keywords are posted to Google, it is essential that a 'duplicate' keyword search is carried out across the whole account.

Once an adgroup has been created, and keywords added, an advert must be created to entice people to click on these keywords. It is best to create a single advert to begin with, this should ideally make reference to the keywords/adgroup within the advert. The keyword, or part of it, should appear in the title of the add.

All new keywords should be trialed with Broad match type. When looking at successful keywords, the opportunity will arise to create Phrase and Exact match type versions of the same words.

Google says its search result will include private links based on that user’s network of friends avalanche of photos, links and observations tumbling shared on Google+ or Google’s photo sharing service Picasa.

Google is not the first to do this, Bing since May last year has been using some of the preferences and other information shared on Facebook on its search result. But now Google's emphasis on more personal results figures to gain more attention.

Now Google search result will be giving different search results to different, the new search service will roll out around the world in English on Google.com over the coming week. The service will be enabled by default for user logged in with their Google account, with it giving you a notification. However, users not interested in displaying their personal result can disable the feature permanently by changing their search settings in Google’s personal preferences.

Here is a video about the new features, read more here :

Online security experts at security firm Seculert has announced that over 45,000 security login to the accounts of British and French Facebook accounts was stolen by a malware recently. Malware which is a worm dubbed Ramnit is said to has been around since April 2010. In its previous incarnation it was deployed to steal banking details.
A spokes person for Facebook said they are working on fixing the issue. Facebook is always having one security issue or the other, a few weeks ago, the account of Facebook founder was hacked and some of his personal private photos published on the Internet.
BBC reported extensively on this latest Facebook problem, a bit of except from the BBC reports:
Social networks offer rich pickings for hackers because of the huge amount of personal data that is stored on them. Increasingly malware is being updated for the social networking age.
"It appears that sophisticated hackers are now experimenting with replacing the old-school email worms with more up-to-date social network worms. As demonstrated by the 45,000 compromised Facebook subscribers, the viral power of social networks can be manipulated to cause considerable damage to individuals and institutions when it is in the wrong hands," said Seculert.
According to Seculert, 800,000 machines were infected with Ramnit from September to the end of December 2011.
Microsoft's Malware Protection Center (MMPC) described Ramnit as "a multi-component malware family which infects Windows executable as well as HTML files... stealing sensitive information such as stored FTP credentials and browser cookies".

Good quality guidelines does not give advice to the level you seem to want them to advice you..... basically, they score each link based on where the link is coming from , for example: (this is just a VERY rough, extremely simplified version of very complex algo).
- Link from your competition or very closely related site gets marked 9/10 (for example if you sell Pepsi, link from other Pepsi seller)
- Link from sites withing your niche gets marked 8/10 (for example other soft drink seller)
- Link from sites remotely related to your niche 5/10 (for example general drinks seller selling alcohol, Pepsi etc)
- Link from QUALITY directory for example DMOZ 5/10
- Link from strong quality niche directory 5/10 (for example directories about Pepsi ONLY)
- Link from general free directory 1/10 (general directories with thousands of unrelated link just going in every direction)
- Link from general directories flags as spam source 0/10 or even -1/10

When I worked in SEO, I usually convince my client to set up a second site, just a blog just for link exchange and it works very well. Its WORTH IT.

I don't think you should place too much emphasis on PR, PageRank is NOT important to SERPs, its the quality of the link page that is more important. If a page resolves highly in Google for the target phrases you are looking for, getting a link from that page even is its PR0 will boost your rank significantly, a higher PR page that does not rank well in Google for the terms will not be able to do the same.
Hello again, here’s one way to create a rotating panorama in flash out of several consecutive images.

The things needed are:
- the flash archive linked at the bottom of this tutorial (the swf engine for rotating the pano image)
- some software for stitching the consecutive images
- a website to show the results

So, let’s say you have a minimum of 8 consecutive images , that is same landscape shooted at an agle of every45 degrees (45*8 = 360).
Google for “panorama stitching images” and choose one software to stitch the images into one single image row. One may find that it gets easier to do the stitching with one software rather than the others, yet once you’ll try about 3-4 panoramas you’ll know what is easy and what is not. Just give each one a try and decide later J

Here is what this sample is using:

Now that one has the 360 image row and the archive is time to do the flash output.
Name the image file “panorama.jpg” and overwrite the sample one, or use your own file name and change the xml “panoName” parameter.
This sample uses swfobject.js to load the flash contents, and xml for buttons and image pointer.
