BitDefender, an online security company, has identified a new threat. This new malware acts as destructive as a virus and spreads exactly like a worm, the combination being almost fatal for your hard disk.

Until now, two versions of this malware have been discovered: the Win32.Worm.Zimuse.A and Win32.Worm.Zimuse.B. Both of them are acting like harmless IQ tests. When they are being executed the first 50KB of the hdd’s Master Boot Record is overwritten, thing that leads to a brutal data loss.

It is quite impossible to find and destroy this virus in its early days, more than that, after 40 day (or 20 days for B version), the computer receives an error message and after the restart, the boot sector will crash. So, yes, a fatal one indeed.

It seems that 64 bit OS are far for being harmed by this virus, so 32 bit OS owners should check these days a removal tool from BitDefender, the ones that discovered it and that said they’re working on this malware removal software.
