Too Many Dating Sites

Are there too many dating sites out there now or is it still worth starting a new one?

There are too many general dating sites, by this I mean dating sites for heterosexual between the ages of 18 and say 35. But niche dating sites for example dating sites for say single parents, say mature people over 35 are still thriving quite well and it may be worth starting.

I just started two dating sites. One an 'Adult Contact' site and the other one targeting the over-40's . I launched them about a month ago and I have just been building links up till now and there hasn't been a lot of activity yet. But a few results have stated to come in from Google & Yahoo searches. Too early to guage whether I am wasting my time yet, I guess.

Anyone got experience of how long these sorts of sites take to build and develop into income earners?

Like you I have an adult dating site and a regular dating site. I make more money from the adult site than the regular dating site.
With the adult site, look for a niche that you can easily get to page 1 position 1 for and optimise your site to get that, if you do not get to the top pages of page 1, you do not stand a chance of generating enough traffic to make it worth your while.

You should also use PPC to generate traffic, someone said PPC traffic tends to convert better than organic traffic but PPC for dating site is VERY expensive, again, you need to find a niche that is not over crowded so that you can get the keyword cheaply.

I notice in your link building, you are offering link from a link page, serious experienced webmaster will not trade with you, link page are the worst page to exchagne links from, actually search engines can penilise you for link from link pages.
The best links are incontent links and links from homepage.

Yeah I have a links page on the site for the backlinks and also a link exchange which is not really for backlinks in the SEO sense but more for traffic from my links back to my site..if I am making any sense

Do you have many other sites other than dating sites? If so, may I ask which areas are most profitable right now? Cheeky question from someone keen on developing alternate income streams. lol

I have many other sites but I am not sure they are a niche you can just go into if you do not have specialist knowledge to get things going in that niche for example this forum is mine, I also have some other webmaster related sites that brings me some income but the niche is rather saturated, you can still make it there but you need to come up with something very very new and radical.

As there are too many sites, similarly there is the demand for so many sites. Just look at the member count at each site, and you will understand that how much people are also interested in the sites.

Market will never get saturated, but the thing is you need to promote your product in an innovative way to attract the visitors,and also you to perform various tactics to drive the traffic.
