Directory submission guidelines - what are your thoughts?


Give that in the great scheme of search engine marketing, directories are not that important this days, to make it worst some of them have rather long winded submission guidelines. I personally think directories should have just a few straight forward submission guidelines. Do you own a directory or use directory submission regularly? what are your thoughts about directory submission guidelines?

Generally speaking, the web directory guidelines should be simple and directly to the point, and in the same time, they should be covering all of rules and strictly applied. The problem is that most submitters now use programs to submit to web directories, thus they do not even read the rules and they spam the web directories with worthless submissions.

So, it depends on the web directory owner whether if he/she is looking to provide quality information and resources or if he/she is just looking for quantity.

I also disagree that directories are not important, true and decent web directories are still effective, however the amount of useless web directories that are being created are far more than decent directories and they do not contribute to the normal user or web marketer in anything giving the impression that web directories are not important anymore.

care to name some directories that you consider useful, in my experience to be honest, I don't come across many (maybe I have not been looking in the right corner of the web).

Directories...omg...I am sick n tired with directories...I have been working on directories for the past many months. submitting my websites to 1000's of directories but I nothing showedup. :(
