Thread: Google Directory is no more

Google Directory which has been online for quite a few years seem to have been retired very quietly, I visited the url today and I was greeted by this message:

Google Directory is no longer available.

We believe that Web Search is the fastest way to find the information you need on the web.

If you prefer to browse a directory of the web, visit the Open Directory Project at dmoz.org


Google directory was not particularly useful for anything especially give the fact that it basically just imports he contents of DMOZ.

I don't think anyone will particularly miss Google Directory or DMOZ for that matter if it should disappear as well.

Yep, Google stopped using ODP about 6 months ago, which in my opinion G. should have had done at least 6 years ago.

Technology and systems are updated. I have not use directories ever since. Even in my seo works ,I dont rely on it.

Google Directory was always the duplicate of the ODP, i.e. Dmoz.. so many wouldn't have minded the closure of Google Directory. It didn't serve any help and importance for the webmasters as most of the times it didn't show up as backlinks as Dmoz links did.

yes i have also heard that Google directory is not more.
