Thread: How to run a directory?

Some questions regarding directory:

* What is the best script?
* How often do you accept/reject entries (every day)?
* Accept all or remove what you think is spam (more or less articles/links)?
* Many or few categories?
* Paid or free submissions?

Anyone?

Different people use different script, I prefer eSydicat because its got a good free support when compared with other scripts. Answer to you other questions follows:
i. I accept/reject submission when I have a paid submission
ii. I definitely remove spam and sites that are of poor quality or submission with too few description.
iv. You can creat as many categories as you like but don't just create categories, at the top of the category you should have an intro text for example the intro text on this UK dating sub category of wura directory
v. When your directory is new, you should run free and paid, you need volume from the free submission to get your directory populated.

Thanks temi. I'm getting around 100 articles and link submitted to my site each day. It's not always easy to see what's spam and what's not (takes much time :-) )

In that case you want to change your director to paid directory, that immediately stop 99% of spam submission. I have done that with many of my directories and its quiet effective.

It depends on if you want opensource or a paid for script..

* How often do you accept/reject entries (every day)? Depends on if you auto approve, if manual and your site gets lots of signup's, then a daily thing.
* Accept all or remove what you think is spam (more or less articles/links)? If they are trashy spam, then remove.
* Many or few categories? Depends on twhat types of busine'ss you want.
* Paid or free submissions? Free for info and mass traffic, paid is like an inbetween, less traffic, but money in your pocket.

well if you can afford a paid script then go for phplinkdirectory otherwise phpweby will work fine.
i accept links on a daily basis with only good descriptions, whenever i see any keywords stuffed link info i just delete it.
spam is keywords stuffed decription which doesn't makes sense.
you should start with somewhere around 200-250 categories and drill down later on.
start with free submissions, build a quality directory then you should think about turning it into a paid directory.

If this is the case, I would subject you do something else.

To run "real" directory takes time, a lot of it if you want to make
any substantial mark in directories industry.
