    Default Offsetting?

Does your company use offsetting and if not, why not? I know some people think it is just an excuse as companies cannot be bothered to spend money looking for more environmentally friendly methods of running their company. I personally think it's a good thing for some companies that can't afford to do this / run a company (e.g. datacenter) that has to use large amounts of resources.

We don't, the datacenter we utilize runs off wind energy purchased from the electric company from two different wind farms.

    1) Taking an equal and opposite futures position to a position held in the cash market. The offsetting futures position constitutes a hedge.
    2) Taking an equal and opposite futures position to another futures position, known as a spread or straddle.
    3) Buying a futures contract previously sold, or selling a futures contract previously bought, to eliminate the obligation to make or take delivery of a commodity.
