Apples’ iPhone cracker, George Hotz, he explained Friday how he hacked the PlayStation 3 with simple hardware and complicated software after 5 weeks of work.

Now he released in the wild this exploit because he wanted to move on to another work. This exploit works with a feature that allows a second OS to be installed on the console and allows hackers to develop it in order to play also illegally games on PlayStation 3.

Sony started to examine the exploit and it seems that they are working on an update to cover the hole created by Hotz. It is the same scenario as in iPhone case, when Apple released update after update to block the exploits created by this cracker.
