phpBB and its floors.
I've been told I'm (and I quote) "an idiot" for using phpBB on a forum as it is unsecure, prone to hacking, bad for SEO. This is the first I've heard of this and I'm wondering if anyone can give any examples of this rather that these bold brash statements that were told to be on a forum post.
I'm obviously concerned if there is any truth in the opinions of the person as I will avoid its use but as far as I'm aware with the correct security settings, latest patches etc the risks are only now as low as any other open source forum software.

Martin,
The people rubbishing phpBB are quite right, very good example is the fact that my first forum which I have not sold was started with phpBB, it got hacked several times... I got feedup and changed to another open source (SMF) that one is more secured BUT with openSource script you spend a lot of time looking for patches and fixes when there is a security problem but with stuff you buy like vBulletin, they actually email you and offer you patched when they discover security issue.
If budget is a problem and you must use a free software, then SMF iS much more secure than phpBB.
