Leading charity Action Medical Research is again challenging teams of walkers from across the UK to sign up to take part in their 10th Three Peaks Challenge event. Adventurous supporters have raised more than £1 million for the Charity in previous years by taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon with the Action Medical Research mascot, Paddington Bear. Teams - made up of at least three climbers and one driver - must take Paddington to the top of the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours over the weekend of 11 and 12 July 2009. They will need to make their own way between the mountains and should be comfortable with using a map and compass. Each team must commit to raising a minimum of £2,000 in sponsorship funds to support the Charityâ??s work. Money raised by the challenge will help Action Medical Research investigate many serious diseases and conditions. Some of the Charityâ??s current projects include looking for answers to premature birth, sickle cell disease, cerebral palsy, stroke, epilepsy, and osteoporosis. Everyone who takes part in Action Medical Researchâ??s Three Peaks Challenge will receive a free T-shirt, a medal and breakfast at the foot of Snowdon in North Wales. Teams will also be able to keep their Paddington Bear. There will be trophies for the fastest teams, best team spirit, best fundraisers and â??golden oldiesâ?? â?? teams whose ages total 200 years or more. The challenge, which starts at Ben Nevis and finishes at Snowdon, is limited to 40 teams.
