Natural Wool Bedding Proven To Improve Sleep Quality
A growing number of Brits are sleeping soundly through the recession by snuggling up under wool bedding according to retail website www.thewoolroom.com. The Bradford-based e-commerce site, launched in 2008, is seeing interest in its range of wool bedding and furnishing products surpass expectations with a noticeable increase in orders during the recent cold snap. "It seems that more and more people are turning back the clock and recognising the benefits of wool," explained Liz Harper of thewoolroom.com "and with 25% more REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep under a wool duvet it offers an antidote to the stress levels we're experiencing in these tough timesâ??. "According to a recent survey by the British Sleep Council, one in four of us are currently finding it harder to sleep than we did twelve months ago because of job uncertainties and money worries. "Wool is making a comeback after decades of playing second fiddle to man-made fibres," added Liz and it's easy to see why given that wool is nature's miracle bedding fibre. "Everyone perspires during sleep and wool is a natural humidity controller that can absorb up to a third its weight in water before it will feel damp. This helps to keep your core body temperature constant and you have a deeper more restful sleep," she added. TEN WOOLLY FACTSâ?¦. Quality sleep makes you healthier and is vital to your well-being. Sleeping on or under wool provides 25% more REM sleep than other commonly used fillings, so you wake more refreshed, having slept deeper for longer. A study carried out by the Psychology Department of the University of Hull concluded: "A wool filled duvet was shown to be capable of extending stage 4 (deep sleep) by 25% when compared to a duvet with a polyester fill." Wool is the number one "buffer" fibre and is a natural controller of the humidity of the air between you and your duvet. Wool works equally as well in summer as it does in winter with excellent insulation values that keep you warm when it's cold. Equally wool's exceptional capacity to 'breathe' keeps you cool in summer. This is due to the unique morphology (physical structure) of wool. Similarly, when climbing under the wool covers together it moderates each person's micro-climates to promote personal comfort. Wool is completely sustainable and environmentally friendly. Wool is SAFE (Sustainable / Absolutely Natural / Flame Retardant / Environmentally Friendly). Unlike synthetics and feather down, wool is also inherently flame retardant. Because wool tends to control humidity it is not an environment conducive to house dust mites, which is good news for allergy and asthma sufferers. Wool duvets, such as those available through thewoolroom.com, are machine washable and can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. They are easy to care for and perfect for today's lifestyles. Wool is completely biodegradable and can be used as a fertiliser and soil conditioner. Wool duvets are bouncy owing to the natural springiness of the wool fleece, from which a lightweight wadding is produced and encased in quality natural cotton. Thewoolroom.com and other wool retailers are seeking to address the decline in wool production. In 1970 wool accounted for 7.6% of the world's fibre production but in 2007 it was only 1.7%. Wool production has fallen from 1,700 mkgs to 1,202 mkgs whereas total fibre production has risen from 22,226 mkgs to 69,149 mkgs. Source: the Woolmark Company. TheWoolRoom.com includes a wide range of bedding, furnishings, clothing and gifts and accessories all crafted from the natural fibre.

I think it would decrease the quality of my sleep...I've been under natural wool before, and all it does is make me itch.
