Are LEDs ideal for lighting
When we work for long hours under a CFL Lamp, it weakens our eyes and affects our health. It contains toxic substances like mercury which can lead to cancer. Guess its time for us to replace CFL bulbs for LEDs..

I am a student by profession and a writer by choice..
I love reading motivational books and have written some on my own experience..
So, have to study late hours under a lamp..
Few days before,I had itching and pain in my eye..So, someone suggested that it might be because of CFLs I study and write under...

Thanks for that clarification, I though you were a crafts person who need that particular kind of light for your work.
Change your lamp to a more eye friendly kind and see if it make a difference.

My opinion is studying in the day time is best. If it is not possible for you, go to room which is illuminated brightly. then you will not have eyes problems. Whether is ordinary bulb or CFL or LED, it will be eye friendly only if the place is properly illuminated. As such nights are meant to sleep. If you really want to use some green option choose the day time for reading. Do not do anything that puts more strain on your eyes in the night time.

Siri,
I quite agree with you, using natural day light is best but there are occasions where this is not possible, we have to use artificial light now and again.

Thanks for your suggestion...The catch is that I have my classes in the daytime and can write only at night...
So, require a cool trendy light..

LEDs are better than CFLs on so many levels - increased energy efficiency, reduced risk of breaking/bursting, reduced heat emission, easy disposal, longer lifespan, and contain no hazardous substances. Despite these, if either the LED or the CFL isn't bright enough, it will affect your eye sight. Maybe you need to have more lighting

So, my last thought, then, with efficiency in mind is to get a kit with a programmable chip. My question is how it is programmable? How difficult would it be to program it with a slice choosing my own lighting settings? For example, off, red, dark red med, red, white, white stockings white high med. Or such an arrangement. Again the idea is to get all the light switches throughout the boat to be the same with red and white lights. There is a kit mentioned on this site that has a button that turns on a number of pre-programmed settings. Ill have to go find him. I also saw on other sites. Ive never programmed a chip, so there will be a learning curve for her, but I can read maps and capelin.
