Ten years after they first took their clothes off for charity, the Calendar Girls launched a new calendar for 2010 at Harvey Nichols in Leeds yesterday to be sold in support of charity Leukaemia Research. The 2010 calendar boasts a completely new set of 12 images of the Girls, which for the first time are in full colour. It was the tragic loss of her husband John from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which inspired Angela Baker and her friends from the Rylstone WI to make the first 'naked' calendar. The women hoped the sale of the original calendar would raise enough money to buy a sofa for the local hospital where John was treated. To date, the Calendar Girls have raised nearly £2million for Leukaemia Research, which is dedicated to saving lives by funding leading UK research into better treatments and cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma."Sometimes I have to pinch myself to remember that's my story. I feel so many emotions, it's hard to explain, " says Angela Baker. "John did know about the calendar and he said we were all talk but I know he would have been so proud to know nearly £2 million has been raised for Leukaemia Research in his name" says Angela.Cathy Gilman, chief executive of Leukaemia Research says: " Never underestimate the value of a small personal idea. The Calendar Girls could never have foreseen that 10 years on they would have raised so much money to help save lives and spare other families the pain of losing a loved one."The Calendar Girls 2010 calendar costs £9.95 and is available from www.leukaemiashop.com or you can order by phone on 01736 336 960.The launch of the 2010 calendar is being sponsored by Harvey Nichols Leeds and international law firm Pinsent Masons.
