Latvian government wants to abandon Microsoft software
Prime Minister of Latvia has signed a draft study on how they might abandon the Microsoft software in favor of open source products. Hit hard by the economic crisis, Latvia desperately looking for ways to save the state budget. High on the list of government in dealing with software licenses, especially Microsoft products.
According to AFP, the resolution signed by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis is looking an opportunity, financial and legal, by the State to partially or fully foloseacă software that is not produced by Microsoft. Agency quotes the spokesman of the Government shows that measure is aimed at cutting costs and open source products.
This decision caused a negative reaction from the association representing the IT & C companies
"It would be the state's fight with Microsoft or any other company, but to use IT to improve the effectiveness of government apparatus," reads an open letter to Government Association Dombrovskis
