Many companies have their own location in google places. And it is helps when someone looking for services or products in some cities. But how do you think does ratings in google places affects SEO?

the simple answer to that is yes, it helps to get good rating in Google Places, it will help improve your site ranking in Google Local and when you search for a keyword with a local reference your site get ranked quite well, a good example is if you type the keyword "Canoes and kayaks herefordshire" into Google, the first site listed on the SERP pages is a listing for Canoing site called HB canoes which has the best rating in Google Places and the data displayed is data pulled from Google Places rather than regular Google SERPS.
