It is not sure how much time it will take for your site to come in top search engine ranking. SEO is ongoing process. If quality backlink is taken in proper category with quality link exchange than i am sure that result will come quickly.

Never know about this, check competition against keyword. Keyword having 100,000 searches or more take more time then keyword having 20,000 searches. Also look for competition some good traffic volume keywords have not high competition.

It takes 5 -7 weeks

For high competition keywords it can take up to a few years to reach first position.

Definitely no one can say how much time it will take for your site to come in top search engine ranking.But if you need lots of original content that is unique and compellign and that people will want to see, read, and interact with. Simply submitting your site all over the place won't help.You should also using relevant keywords in your web contents which is also very helpful.Link popularity is also a good advice to link back to web sites that link to you. Also the more sites that link to your web pages, the better your rankings.
If you will go through this step seriously it will take a month and now it's your fate.

There are so many factors that are taken into account by search engines when they rank other websites including:

• On page optimization – in particular the TITLE tag and the keywords throughout the body of the page
• How many backlinks are pointing to the site
• The quality of the backlinks pointing to the site
• The keywords contained within the anchor text of your backlinks
