Almost half of Google News users read only the titles, without accessing the link that redirects them on different pages where they can read newspapers and the rest of the contents.

"Even though Google generates traffic on the online pages of newspapers, there are situations in which users don't access the content" said Ken Doctor, a specialist in the Outsell consulting company, adding that "44% of Google News visitors are only interested in the headlines, and do not access the newspaper sites."

While many owners of American media institutions consider introducing fees for accessing online content, the survey shows that only 10% of study participants would be willing to pay a subscription fee to a newspaper, in order to gain access to their online version.
