scooters vs automobile!
I have recently seen during the high price of gasonine this summer an increase in the number of scooters on the road. Mainly the Vespa from Italy and also the Hondo Scooter. I believe they get about 100 km to a litre of gas and are great for inner city parking.
What are your thoughts on a scooter! Would you trade in your gas guzzler for one?

It is said that if one million people traded in their SUV's for a scooter the world would save about 2 million barrels of oil per year. Also the average person would save on average 500 dollars of gas a year. This of course does not include the savings on Insurance.

I probably would for an electrical one but unfortunetly I think they are illegal where I live to ride on public roads which is a big shame because I know alot of elderly people use them.

Also bikes and scooters are death traps. They are 20x more likely to die in a crash then a car driver. I guess you can't live in fear like that all the time but I'm just sayin' cause I've been looking at getting a bike license for some time.

This is where governments come in and should make bicycle and scooter lanes only. The problem here is the political will is not there as they know that the average Joe may talk the talk but not walk the walk as they may say they want to be greener but when push comes to shove most dont want to be inconvenienced with driving a scooter or even a small car for that matter!

My other concern with scooters (and I'm a motorcycle driver myself) is the amount of carbon they pump into the air. Sure, they get better gas mileage than cars. That's because they are lighter with smaller engines. Many of those engines are two stroke or similar technologies that have a lot more waste gases produced than their equivalent 4-cylinder counterparts.
I once read a study that said that a scooter might go twice as far on the same tank of gas as a hybrid car, but it puts out 5 times the smog. I wish I could find that link again. It was an interesting read.

I think scooters and motorcycles can not offer the comfort that a car offers. And you do not have the ability to transport that many people at a time. Therefore my vote goes for cars but I suggest making the gas prizes that high that people are forced to drive together or go for busses and trains. All the cars with just one person inside, that is a waste, not the car itself but having four chairs empty.

car is much comfortable than scooters, and usually you will have a greater physical damage during accidents in scooters than in cars...

With gasoline prices now at record levels, many consumers have begun to seek alternative methods of transport. At some point consumption of gasoline was the only factor in buying a car or truck, but it was only one factor among many. Now that gas prices reached a record of gas mileage, has become the number one most important aspects of buying a vehicle. Unfortunately, even decent mileage cars are still expensive to operate with a small car costs more than $ 50 to fill. With current high fuel prices, it is not surprising that sales of gas scooters are booming. mileage bike is amazing! A gas scooter can fuel up to 100 miles per gallon. Even a small car, if conducted in a responsible manner only gets around 40-45 miles per gallon. Many trucks and SUV gas mileage for the 20 mile per gallon with a total cost of over $ 100! SUV mileage scooter mileage is like a joke!
