Which Do You Prefer Between Banner Ads and Text Links?

There are webmasters that purchases text links on websites for the sole reason of either increasing their toolbar PR or SERP in search engines.
While on the other hand, there are webmasters that purchases banner advertisements on high traffic websites to gain traffic.

When advertising/marketing your web page, which do you prefer between banner ads and text links?

It depends on many factors for example on the quality of website and what kind of users visit this site. Matt Cutts said good backlink is that brings visitors to your site. But it also depending where your link placed.

A lot of webmasters accustomed to the fact that big part of users come from search engines, that's why they focusing on high rankings and mostly prefer text backlinks. But if you can add a banner on site with good traffic and with similar theme to yours - why not.

Most of the publisher prefer text ads because they are place in Google search result and there are more probability of getting traffic then banner ads. Most of the internet users click on banner ads just for fun but the real traffic comes from the text ads, so I prefer to use text ads.

I have to disagree :). Banner ads has very good chances to catch user's attention especially when you can find it on relevant website.
