Thread: Give your site promotion tip to newbies

Starting out as a webmaster can be difficult, you have just started a website and you don't quite to know how to go about promoting and optimising it. Well, that is what experienced webmasters like us are here for. In this thread, I will encourage experiend webmasters to give newbies tips on various aspects of webmastering from search engine optimisation to link building and other webmaster tip.

I will start with my own tip which is that you should not have a link exchange section on your website. Its really not very professional.

One of the most important thing you can do to ensure the success of your website is to choose the right keywords. The purpose of search engine optimization is to make finding your site easy for users who are interested in your topic areas, by targeting the right phrases that best match the overall theme of your site, you can ensure that users will find your site when searching for content like yours.

Few Keyword Optimization Guidelines

• Determine your keyword phrases
• Sort by popularity. Be specific AND general in scope
• Refine and combine keyword phrases
• Sort by popularity again (repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed)
• Write a title using your top two to three phrases
• Write a description meta tag
• Write a keywords meta tag
• Add keywords into key tags and attributes

My tip is:

Don't write for the search engines, write for the readers. By this I mean the content you are writing should be keyword rich but not blatant that it doesn't make sense. Good content will prove itself over time as more people will come back to the site.

I agree with this. on the other hand as an additional option, you may consider some SEO factors to help your good content. But still, your content is the most important part or area to prioritize...

If you have a blog and twitter a good and easy way of getting traffic is to get a wordpress plugin called "TwitterTools" Just enter your username and password and turn it on and everytime you make a new blog post it automaticly tweets to your twitter. This can be useful if you have loads of followers and gives you easy traffic!
