How to change the WordPress Permalink default
The default WordPress URL, really sucks, changing the link structure of your WordPress entries can hugely improve your site search engine optimization.
For SEO purpose, Search Engines don't understand urls with numbers and letters after a '?' on a php page and also they won't detect your keywords in the url, so you should know that URL's or Permalinks (permanent links to posts) are very important to your Wordpress blog.
To change the WordPress Permalink default:
- Log into your WordPress blog.
- At the very bottom of the left column find Settings and click on it.
- Select 'Permalinks' under the 'Settings' tab on the left hand sidebar in the admin panel.
- You can either select a url structure from a list of options or you select the radio button for Custom Structure and paste /%postname%/ into the box.
Few tags available for the custom structure are :
%year% : The year of the post, four digits
%monthnum% : Month of the year
%day% : Day of the month
%postname% : A sanitized version of the title of the post
%post_id% : The unique ID # of the post
%category% : A sanitized version of the category name
%tag% : A sanitized version of the tag name.
%author% : A sanitized version of the author name.
- Click save changes.
