PC ownership to 'double by 2010'

Lenovo is forecast to dominate future PC sales
The number of personal computers worldwide is expected to double by 2010 to 1.3 billion machines, according to a report by analysts Forrester Research.
The growth will be driven by emerging markets such as China, Russia and India, the report predicted.

More than a third of all new PCs will be in these markets, with China adding 178 million new PCs by 2010, it said.

Low-priced computers made by local companies are expected to dominate in such territories, Forrester said.

The report comes less than a week after IBM, a pioneer of the PC business, sold its PC hardware division to China's number one computer maker Lenovo.

It will be interesting to see American companies try to cash in on this. I believe they can do it as long as they make very cheap computers. These emerging markets overseas will not have people who have $1000US to spend on computers. They will probably have something closer to $200, if even that.

One problem that arises is their internet. While it means more traffic, does it mean that we will have to make our sites easier to load because they surely won't have fast interenet.

Also, translation to Chinese, Russian, and Arabic will become key for webmasters.

Are you sure on that?
I read somewhere (but I totaly forgot where ) that India has plans to offer Internet connection for home users at 2MBps for 3$/month. And yes, I *am sure* of the figures, because I was very envious!!! :P
