AdWords campaign - to follow or not to follow Google?
I recently started an AdWords campaign for a dating website, thought the results would interest you. Although the AdWords gurus might be aware of these, maybe some beginners would take advantage of these personal experiments:
First, changing a headline ( a so called great headline ) can definitely improve your CTR. I tried the same ad with different headlines, quite related though, and the differences where something like double or more the CTR for a single word inserted in the headline - "real".
first, the old one (headline - dating for the mature) - clicks 21, impressions 14,073, CTR 0.15%
the new one (headline - date real mature singles) - clicks 21, impressions 5,724, CTR 0.37% - DOUBLE+
Although the CRT is still somewhere low, it doubled with only a slight change, so definitely trying different headlines and different approaches can do the trick.
Second, you know, when establishing the max CPC, Google has "suggestions" for what is the max CPC for getting on the first page. While AdWords simply means experiments, I tried a much lower max CPC as they suggested and guess what: first page for 3 keywords!
What I am trying to say is that without experimenting with max CPC, headlines, text, landing page etc there is no way to get maximum benefits from this advertising programs at low costs.
I'll keep updating this thread when I discover new interesting facts about this issue. :)

ok... that is one low CTR lol.
Make some interesting titles. You want to tell the person little to have them click on your ad. Like if you were promoting a clickbank diet offer. DO NOT say SCAMM.....
Just keep it real. You can say Fastest method to lose weight. ( top of my head)
hope that helps.

On the highly competitive Google AdWords pay per click (PPC) search engine, it’s now more important than ever to ensure that your PPC campaigns are optimized to their utmost potential. All of us want to achieve maximum return on investment (ROI) for the keywords or phrases that are most relevant to our businesses, and are most likely to provide our sites with targeted traffic.
The mistakes that you should avoid include:
creating a long list of less than targeted keywords
failing to identify unique aspects of your product or service
a lack of keywords in your ad text
directing users solely to your home page
creating single ad groups
utilizing single campaigns
using broad match only
failing to optimize ad serving for your ads
failing to track results
entering the content network without modifying bids
