PPC vs SEO
In Pay-Per Click Methodology, the difference with Search Engine Marketing with actual SEO becomes evident as some optimizer find PPC scheme hurting the organic traffic of some websites.
If you try searching some of your keywords for your website, you'll probably get chance to see those Google Ads that fill in the side bar or the top results. That's why it's best to do both to avoid being run over by PPC over-spending webmasters.

PPC isnt a bad idea when the site first starts out and the traffic is highly targeted like Adwords , alot of people use PPC until they have worked on seo and are starting to rank for the keywords that is bringing the traffic

certainly want to keep doing both, there are lot of occasions where a user wants to click the top results rather then the ads next to it, also it depends on the aggressiveness of the website owner as to what ratio he wants to keep a budget for spendings.
initial stage might require more of branding and more funds for ppc could be a good option.

Both are good. Someone told me that the difference between those two is cost. PPC costs you so much while SEO is free. However, I don't believe that SEO is free.

yes, you can do SEO for free... if you do optimization that are free.... like free directories, then free classifieds....social networking and bookmarking that are free and forums that allow links on your signature which are for free :D i think you'll just pay for SEO if you hire one :D

SEO, its free..
To understand why SEO (search engine optimization) is important, you need to know what SEO does for a website. If you needed to hire a new manager for your office you would let people know about the opening by advertising. An ad in the paper would include the positions’ title, job description, and how to contact you. It might also state how not to contact you (i.e., no phone calls).
Meta data and other codes provide similar information to robots including titles, descriptions, and instructions on how and what to read on a webpage.
A robot is what search engines (and other information gathering companies) use to find your site, analyze it, and then decide what to do with it (ignore it, ban it, or index it).
Think of SEO as advertising your site to search engines. If robots do not know about you, like what they see, or cannot understand what you are saying, you will not get search engine “air time.”
Robots – Make Them Your Friends
The Internet search engine process is not run by people. It is run by robots (spiders, webcrawlers, worms, and webants) that (hopefully) visit your site and try to understand and index it. If your site is not indexed, it will not show up in search engines. Period.
A site with good SEO attracts robots and provides instructions, descriptions, and content that robots can understand, analyze, and assign relevance to. A site with no, or poor SEO will either get ignored, or worse – tagged as spam or blacklisted.
