It's not as important as anyone might think (in this day and age) for ranking purposes because it'll end up as a spammer's goldmine.
...and you do not need HTML heading for each and every web page.

Although I have to say I love headings in content because it points the searcher to what they're searching for - right away.
Basically, it's for the people that wants quick information, not to read 1,000+ words to find nothing they were searching for.

In my opinion, to help put your keywords in the H1 tag to your pages listed in Google better.

H1 tag is the most important heading because its the highest level tag that shows what your specific page is about...:)
