Day by day SEO is becoming smarter and more complicated. Sujan Patel from searchenginejournal has made a list where he included 25 ways to get penalized in 2012:
- Cheap spam links. Nowadays you can find many websites that offer a lot of backlinks at low prices. Unfortunately the quality of such links very low too.
- Paid links that pass PR. If you buying links be sure that they use nofollow tag. And remember that paid links violate Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.
- Link exchanges. Google can identify that your website use link exchange method which violate Webmaster Guidelines too. Be sure to use 3-way link exchange when partnering with other websites.
- Hiding links in CSS, JavaScript…. Google’s bot become more advanced every day and nowadays bot can understand different file types.
- Low distribution of anchor text. Don’t use only targeting keywords in your anchor text. According to the Penguin update, percent of targeting keywords must not exceed 50-60.
