Anchor text is the text used to link to something. Search engines look at anchor text to determine relevance and context. Anchor text can play a role in how a search engine ranks a specific keyword or phrase.

leprakawn, thanks for bringing it to notice of other people. I agree with you that my question is quite easy one and could be found on Google but I posted this question here because I was not able to understand few things or let me rephrase myself, I read few posts and articles but had doubts in it, so I thought it would be much easier to understand and get answer to my question if i put it on forum. Forums are like discussion boards, real people answer it and even if you have slightest of doubt, you can get it clear there and then.

I don't want to be rude or something, i am just trying to explain my situation. I hope you understand my point. Thanks

Anchor text is keywords or phrases you used in building links. I think it might appear as the key contents on a vote for your sites in search engines' eyes. :)

It's kinda like the "alt text" of the images.

Anchor text is the hyperlinked words on a web page - the words you click on when you click a link.

You can use anchor text in:
- External links - links from other sites
- Internal links - links on your pages
- Navigation maps
- Links on your main page. A very important spot.
