The major reason of using such Social Media site is to make traffic and not backlink. There are previous techniques to produce backlink so believe those techniques. Twitter is one of the best social networking site which was use most of the users in the world.

i think twitter can help only to get traffic because this is no follow site.So It can not help us to get backlinks.
