Keyword analysis best method
Hi,
I have not got any formal education on SEO. Whatever I am doing
presently from whatever I learnt from internet and various SEO
forums. I am very much interested in keyword analysis. I will tell
you my method of doing that and will be expect suggestions and
corrections from all you the seniors guys.
I first understand the product or service of the website and then
note down all the keywords that comes into my mind. Then I use those
keywords in google keyword tool and look note down all revelant
keyword avariations. I see the popularity of the keyword. Then I go
to google and use each of the keywords from my list and look for
links of the websites against that keyword in link popularity
software. If I don't find websites of less links whom I can beat I
don't use that keyword. This is a process of selecting keywords I am
presently using.
I am not sure, if it is the best one or not. I would like to learn
from your experiences and I would be looking forward to all sorts of
suggestions and advices.
I will be grateful for your suggestions.
Regards,
Ravi

Ravi,
We all have different methods, mine is a bit similar to your and it has worked for me for many year, here is what I usually do.
1. I choose 4 or 5 keywords at a time (note that in about 3 months after achieving my desired position for those keywords I change them.)
2. I optimise my website meta tags for those keywords
3. I use <h> tags to write keyword rich contents on the page/site
4. I build link using the optimised keywords as anchor text.
5. I monitor how the keywords are doing in search engines and via Google Webmaster Tools.
This ALWAYS work for me, I always get to page 1.
If you want me to take a look at your site and keywords you are targeting you can send it to me via PM and I will see how I can help.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks very much for your reply. It was really helpful. Well, since I am learning SEO, I have developed a site on article directory and SEO. I used joomla cms. It is an article directory and I am trying to promote my SEO services with it too. I m not yet doing it professionally but I do SEO works to learn from my experience and from people like you.
Can you please clarify one point?
5. I monitor how the keywords are doing in search engines and via Google Webmaster Tools.
Can you tell me how to monitor my keyword performances?
Regards,
Ravi

Firstly I think having an SEO site and an article directory on a website is not a good idea. Articles and Web directory do not have a glowing reputation with search engines, they are seem partially as spam source so your articles website can drag your SEO business down in search engine ranking.
To monitor your keywords in search engines.... let say you are optimisting your website for the keyword "temi's webmaster tips" , you go to the search engines and type the keyword in. You record the positon of your website for that keyword and the date.
After doing some link building and promoting that keyword and url for say 1 week, you check the potion of the keyword in search engine again and compare it with where it was the first time you checked.... you will build a chart of your progress (or lack of it) by seing how you keyword is rising (or falling) in search engines.
If you do not have a google webmaster account, you should create one, there is a facility here that monitors the traffic to your site, which keywords they use to get to your site etc.

Hi,
Thanks very much. I never knew that article directories and web directories are regarded as spam by search engines. I will make the necessary changes in the site and dedicate the site to SEO only. Thanks very much for your warning.
I am now trying to register into google webmaster tool. I hope it's free.
Regards,
Ravi
