For getting listed in search engines all you need is a unique title for your website, relevant description and Meta tags.

Here are the steps for getting high search ranking for your website:

Title: Your title must be relevant to your content. Include your keywords in the title which helps crawlers to generate high search engine ranking for your website targeted keywords.

Description: Description for your website must relevant to the information that you offer on your website. Include all your targeted keywords in your description under 250 characters. Description is the one which is used by search engines while indexing your website.

Content is the king: The content of your website must be genuine. Search engines consider your website as spam if you use duplicate content. Include all the targeted keywords in your content meaningfully.

Backlinks: The most important technique that brings your website into a top position in all search engines is backlinking. If your website having more no of links then there is a chance of getting a high ranking in all search engines.

Forums: Participate in discussion forums. Suggest valuable comments. Forums also bring a good amount of traffic for your website. Post valuable content in the forums, don't advertise.

I'd like to add a few more tips to which I think are important for SEO:

• Unique titles and Meta descriptions that are keyword focused. It’s important to remember that any page of your site could be the first page a user sees on your site. Give them enough keyword focused information to understand the content of the page.
• Don’t worry about keyword density. A ratio of 1% to 8% is acceptable although 1% maybe a little low for competitive keywords. Anything over 8% usually begins to reek like spam and influence user experience. There are exceptions but in most cases, if every 10th word of your document is the same word or phrase, you could be considered as spamming.
• Make your global navigation template is keyword focused. But remember that every link is a vote. Even internal links. And so, the links that appear on your global navigation serve as votes from each page of your site.
• Homepage Logo Link. If you site is one of the 99% of sites that has a logo in the top left corner with a link that points back to your homepage, make sure that link is working for you by including a 4 to 7 word alt tag that is again keyword focused.
• Make sure you navigation links are being indexed. Avoid maximum use of Flash and Java Scripts in your coding.
• Don’t use 302 redirects. A lot of systems use these redirects by default. They cause major problems for search engines like Yahoo and MSN and at best are inconsistent in Google. You shouldn’t have any problems if you use a 301 redirect.
