Basic SEO Tutorial
SEO Basics: Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Search Engine Optimization?
A website's publication doesn't end from mere design and being published online. The process becomes more hectic as it requires time, effort and strategy. This process is called Search Engine Optimization.
In simple words, SEO is the process of gathering traffics to a website through search engine. This traffic from search engine, also known as organic traffic, is an important sign that your website and it's content is being recognized by search engines as relevant, especially Google.
In technical terms, SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a method in web development that prioritized the goal of increasing the traffic (website visitors) volume coming from major search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc. which is known as organic or natural traffic. They focused mainly in organizing and attributing each web site's pages and content to vary in relevance to their specific target keywords.
SEO is also part of internet marketing strategy because of the positive role of search engines in online business sales and services. The idea where being at the top results page or appear firstly in every keyword search in major search engines is genuinely profitable in online marketing industry. Thus, it becomes the major concerns of today's marketers as how to improve their markets from search engine advantage.
What Are The Methods Used In Search Engine Optimization?
There are two types of optimizing a website so that it can be indexed or be seen in most SE search results. These are On-Page and Off-Page Optimization.
Off-page optimization is actually the most commonly used methods in SEO. It includes link building techniques like:
- social bookmarking
- directory submission
- article posting and submission
- link exchange partnership
- newsgroup posting
- online group promotion
- social network participation, etc.
- site analysis
- keyword research
- keyword density, prominence, and proximity analysis
- meta tags inclusion; and
- link structure organization
When Will You Be Considered as Blackhat or Whitehat SEO?
In general, online users tend to associate spammers as blackhat SEO or Search Engine Optimizers. However there are also some complex cases where an SEO can be considered as blackhat.
The most common blackhat technique is through spamming either through emails, online communities, classifieds sites, online newsgroups, etc. Professional SEOs consider this technique as cheating or illegal in the quality process of optimization because of it's desperate approach to be acknowledge in the internet market even though it lacks the approriate criteria or information that typical users are looking for.
********* infringement can also be considered as blackhat though this scheme is commonly known in the internet as reforging or creating mirror contents especially of a popular website. It is also common in blogging where blog owners copies some quality articles from other website to provide their blog a good boost of subscribers and readers.
Furthermore, whitehat SEOs tries to avoid such method through sticking their procedure to the classic or latest standard off-page and on-page optimization. These are through quality postings, principle such as “Content Is King”, follow the basic criteria in optimizing contents, and assume time as essential factor in quality web development.

There is a tactic out there embraced by bloggers but rarely used by typical websites. It is called Link Baiting.
how does Link Baiting work?
Link Baiting is just like fishing. You publish a new page on a topic (I’ll cover those later) and set it free on the web. Hopefully others pick up on the content as fresh and interesting and link to it. The article is the bait, and the link is the catch.
A properly created page can capture huge links on its own with little to no effort from you.
