Yes, earning from ads can vary wildly with that amount of traffic. I have Adsense on a blog that gets around 500 hits a day, and has done for a while. Yet I've earned only 15 bucks so far, and the ads have been running for nearly a year.
The reason is that it's an eclectic blog, so it's not focused on any particular niche. It's also got a lot of comment about current affairs, etc. That means people have come via searches for what's in the news. That is, they are overwhelmingly readers as opposed to buyers. Hence they rarely click on the ads.

As I see it, there are generally 2 types of site: commercial and non- commercial. It is perfectly possible to monetize a non-commercial site very successfully. But consider this; If you are bringing people to a site where your aim is to sell them your product or service, steer clear of publishing PPC ads on your home page or perhaps anywhere else on your site. Be focussed on the goal. You want to sell your product, not have them clicking out of your site to (at worst) a competitors product.
For a non-commercial site ads are the only way to make money unless you get it to the top of Pg. 1 and sell the damn thing! Not just PPC ads from Google, Advtise and the like, but ads for your own affiliate products or ads for products you sell on a different site. Also, a note of caution. People visiting a non-commercial site may get a little put off if the have to scroll through acres of ads & banners before they get to the content they are visiting for in the first place.

I personally find 500 hits a day a really low traffic point, but you can still get conversions with that number, it depends on the niche. For example, on health you can get money even with that many hits.

Everyone wants to earn a lot of money on his website。It depends on the products the vistors want and sign up . so it brings a large traffic. And it is great that prodcts are high quality and the advertizement about products are very attracive. Doing these can achieve a great success.

If they are unique and you are using adsense and its quality traffic I would say about $5 a day.
