eBay sues Craiglist

A U.S. court will judge the lawsuit made by eBay against the Craigslist company, a network of online communities containing classified ads. eBay said in a press release in January that two officials of Craigslist, Craig Newmark and Jim Buckmaster, adopted measures which led to a decrease of 10% of company profits.

In 2004, eBay acquired 28.4% from Craigslist, so eBay officials have said that through this process they intend to protect their investments made over the four years in Craigslist.

That will be an interesting case...wonder if there are any precendants?
Wonder what the actions they took were that caused a 10% decrease in sales...bad situation to be in if your majority shareholder can take you to court for a marketing campaign that went wrong for example that leads to a reduction in share value :P

Online auction site eBay extended an open offer to purchase Craigslist last year, according to court documents released Wednesday.
EBay owned a little more than a quarter of Craigslist's shares at the time. But several months later, Craigslist reorganized so that eBay's stake and power in the company was reduced, eBay said.
Last week, eBay sued the popular San Francisco online classified site in Delaware Chancery Court, charging that Craigslist's two primary shareholders, founder Craig Newmark and Chief Executive Officer Jim Buckmaster, underhandedly altered Craigslist's shares and corporate rules to weaken eBay's share in the company.
