UK Car Scrappage scheme should delight auto industry
It is looking very likely that the UK government will introduce incentive for owners of old cars in the UK to scrap it in exchange for up to £2,000 toward buying a new car.
The plans which has caused controversy in some circles is designed to boost demand for new cars and help struggling carmakers counter the effect of the current economic downturn which has devastated the car industry.
A similar scheme in Germany has help increase demand for new car by up to one million with about 250,000 more people expected to take up the offer. Other major EU countries including France and Italy have also introduced a similar schemes, helping boost their auto industry.
The Chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to announce the UK scrappage scheme in the budge to be read on the 22nd of April
