Small UK classified ads site anyone?
I know there are some giant classified ads sites like Gumtree, Craig's list, Loot and other out there. The question is, is there a UK webmaster out there running a small classified ads website and making a success of it?
I think its a very interesting niche and potentially lucrative, it will be quite interesting for someone to provide some more information about this niche.
I think a question that should also follow is does anyone know a decent classified ads software or script? the kind of script one can use to start a classified ads website.
Thanks

besides they usually have rank 0 once you go a little deep on the landing pages...so there's not much point to submit your site there

More people are shoplifting due to economic downturn
Retailers have reported a sharp surge in shoplifting during the recession.
The latest crime survey by the trade body the British Retail Consortium shows *****s by customers jumped by a third between 2008 and 2009.
Violence against staff also increased. Shopkeepers are asking the police to do more to protect them and their stock.
The BRC's research found there were almost half a million *****s - almost one a minute - something they say costs their industry £1.1bn ($1.7bn).
It could be far higher as many crimes are not reported. Pessimists suggest it could even be double this reported rate.
Physical attacks
More seriously for retailers on a personal level, violence and verbal abuse also rose significantly.
At least 22,000 staff nationwide say they have been targeted by customers.
Stephen Robertson, of the BRC, said police and others in the criminal justice system do not take store crime seriously enough.
He said: "It's shocking that a shop ***** happens almost every minute, 24 hours a day... The police and criminal justice system must take retail ***** more seriously."
The figures were revealed in a BRC survey of 60 major stores who employ 1.1 million staff and represent almost half the market.

Gumtree is amazing, about 4000 daily threads posted on the london section.
I dont see how you can beat gumtree or Craigs list, although i dont use Craigs list generally.
Also, i can find a script for a classified Ads site, or i can build one and see wher it takes me.
what kind of thing are you looking for?
Regards,
Jamiee™

there was one for sale
I saw a chap on another forum selling a uk classifieds ad site for $10. To me that says not a popular choice, but can't see why it wouldn't be - tonnes of money to be made though I'm sure.

PHP Classified Script under 68classifieds.com might be good for you. What good about this script is that, they have this advance feature that provides a means of collecting descriptive information about a listing, makes the field searchable or required.
The flexibility of this feature makes 68 Classifieds the perfect solution for a variety of websites.
