What makes a good website?
I have seen various arguments about what constitute a good website. Personally I do know what a good website is but if you are discussing with other webmasters who may not necessarily have the same view of what a good website is that is similar to yours, how do you with the argument, what are the things you ca use to convince a sceptic? the graphics, programming, the number of traffic the site gets?

A good website imho. is a combination of everything, it should have a good design and layout where users should be able to surf through it with enough ease, the site must load quickly without too much delay, it must have a perfect and the essential description of products/services depending on the niche, it must look similar in no matter what browser you are using, it must have a design that is soothing and not something which will irritate a visitor and make him/er run away. This was from a visual an user perspective, you also need to keep the search engines in mind while developing a perfect website ;).;D;);)

A good website is viewer-friendly, which means is has to be ascetically pleasing and easy to navigate. You want to make sure that the content of your website if presented to your audience in the most organized and efficient way possible so they keep returning.

IMO a good website centres around easy navigation and engages the user.

I am a visual person, so if a site has great images to catch my attention the better. But of course working with SEO, what a good website consists of having great content and newsworthy information. You could have a great looking site, but if your content isnt good might as well just give up!

Being a Webmaster, I guess everyone knows what SEO really is and even if one do not known then SEO is Search egnine optimization which means to adapt the website properly for search engines. This increases traffic and no doubt site with good traffic can be called good website.

Most people argue that you should have users in mind when creating a website, not search engines. If you create a website that is user friendly, it will automatically be search engine friendly.

Clean layout.
Optimized and clear images.
Fast loading pages.
When loading a page you should fairly quickly know what they do or sell.
Visible contact info.
Frames and iFrames is a big nono.
Sitemap.
Consistent navigation.
