The black & white version of something I came up with. The symbol above M signifies it's a community (a guy with open hands sort of). I am actually bored so I might even come up with few more.. :)

I think you should try something quite different with the words, I quite like the logo but the word in black and the font used I am not sure about.

I am back again. Sorry, I was busy with homework, assignment and stuff :( Okay, I will try to work again on the font & colors. Will get back in a day/two.
By the way, has this contest been advertised yet? I will do my best to spread the word too... Why don't we have more competitors/designers :(

My entries for the design competition
Happened to stumble across this thread a few weeks ago and thought that designing the logo would be fun...so here goes... hope my entries aren’t too late!
