Servage Web Hosting - A Personal Review
I have used Servage hosting for about 3-4 years now. I have actually never heard of them before until I bought a website, the website was hosted by Servage and the guy who sold the site to me also transferred hosting Servage account to me. The principal reason he choose them was because at that time the were on of the most competitively priced and they give quite a generous amount of web space, the site I bough does involve people posting pictures so we needed a lot of hosting space.

The fact that 4 years on since I bough the site from the guy, I am still hosting it with Servage is a sort of testament to the fact that I am satisfied with their services. They have improved since then, they now offer even more web space today than they offer 4 years ago. One of the things I like most about them is the fact that your site is hosted on clustered server which means the chances of you ever having downtime due to hardware failure is greatly minimised, this is not to say they can guaranteed 100% up time, as a matter of fact, once perhaps about 4 years ago, they had and outage which was caused by their upstream connection provider, my site was offline for quite a while, but one outage in 4 years is not bad.

The way I am writing about Servage, you will think everything is perfect, not, far from it, I have some issues with their services, one of the issues is that my sites seem to be hosted on and old server with PHP4, I recently acquired a script that required PHP5, I asked servage to upgrade PHP on my site but I was told there will be a 24 hours downtime, I am not pleased with that, I think they should be able to upgrade a server (or servers) from PHP4 to PHP5 without taking my sites offline for 24 hours.

Another think I am not particularly happy with at Servage are the restrictions on their server, I know you have to keep a server secure but if a server is so secure that even legitimate users cannot so much as create a simple form, then things has gone overboard. You cannot install your own form script on Servage serve, you have to use the form they provide which is severely restricted, for example you cannot pass parameters into the forms. This and quite a few other restrictions on Servage server does not make them my first choice when I want a hosting company, I still have the old site sitting on their server but I do not host sites with advance requirements on their server.

They do not offer telephone support but their support ticket system is very good, I always get response when I log a support ticket within one hour or less. Their support technicians are also quite knowledgeable.

If you need a basic cheap web hosting space, Servage could be the one for you. If you need advance web hosting space then I will not recommend Servage. They are a German company, all their servers are in Germany so if you need a UK or US IP address for your site, Servage is not for you.
