It seems to me that OP is going to buy their services. I think that if you tell us your requirements, we will find a good option for you. In my opinion, hostgator has not good reputation in web hosting services market and I would like to suggest you to check 4java.ca - I am really satisfied using their services.

There is no denying the fact that it would be more productive if you broaden your search. I suggest you to have a look at hqhost.net web hosting offers. It has the-price-per-gigabyte plans where you will pay only for the traffic used. Hostgator has doubtful reputation and I think that there are many other good companies like I have just mentioned.

The comparison will show you a well-marked picture of true companies. Nothing bad to the mentioned companies but I am sure that you will find more reasonable web hosting offers at webhostgiant.com. They are able to help you with everything you may need: scripts installation, etc.

That site is good but they charge a bit more. My host charges lesser than that and provides almost equal services.

Being a beginner I would rather stay away from hostgator, or any other large host, because such companies is like a supermart - if you won't buy, thousands will, so your they do not really need you, thinking that you need them.
On the contrary, I would rather deal with smalle companies. In particular, webhostgiant.com, or marblehost.com are really good for starting a hosting from.

As for me I'd advise you start from the reliable but not very pricey hosting provider like glowhost.com.
They offer a discounts on their service which you may use to get service from this company cheaper.

I have always been suspicious about large companies especially when starting a new site or online business. The companty is trading the name, whicle you need hosting services. That is why I recommend you to use such company as MMhosting.com, because they are more stable n terms of "reality" of their plans.
