Review: MrQuicker.com directory
Title: Mr Quicker
URL: mrquicker.com
Description: A human-edited directory of the the most popular sites in the most popular categories, with some link spots for advertisers. Inspired by the popularity of the Chinese site hao123.com, I decided to create one for English sites (although ended up with a slightly different design). The idea is to provide a quick, easy way for people to access the most popular English language sites, without too much typing, scrolling or clicking.
Review spots :
1. categories included - missed anything of general usefulness or popular interest?
2. any glaring omissions of massively popular websites in those categories?
3. should the links open in a new page? (at the moment they don't)
4. other feedback on the general idea?
Hope you like it. Great if you use it! Thanks a lot, anyway.

I think your site is fantastic, straight to the point and indeed, you need minimal number of click to get to what you are looking for, congratulations on that. I also like the fact that you use minimal graphics, most websites tends to be overloaded with graphics this days.
Some points to note:
- Text in some sub categories are garbled for exaole this is what I see in your Fashions section. Fashion.net FashionWorld Style.com FashionTV FashionMagazine
- On the homepage, you should some intro text
- The site lack textual contents, I think this will count again it in future as Google will probably not index it or rate it extremely very lows so you will not get much traffic, as a medium term plan, I suggest you find a way of adding quite a bit of original unique contents to the site.
Good luck

Hey thanks a lot for the feedback.
I can't understand why the text is looking garbled - it looks fine on my screen. Could it be something to do with different browsers?I'll check that.
I also know what you mean about the lack of textual content. I realise this will not help me in the SERPs, but I really don't want the site to be cluttered. Also, I'm not really sure what I should blog about if I attach a blog to it.... Web directories? Anything and everything...? Would this help?

Yesterday, I checked your site in Firefox, I checked this morning in IE, the garbled text are still there. I do realise what you mean by not wanting the site to be cluttered you have a hard decision to make there, its either you clutter the site and get good SERP or you leave it at it is and get no where at all, that is guaranteed, speaking from experience, I have more than 10 directories.
It does not have to be a blog, at the top or bottom of each category for example you can have an article about that topic. If you go the blog route, again, just blog about one of the topics you have in the directory every week, every month....
Good luck.Last edited by temi; 05-15-2009 at 08:13 AM.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll be putting some text on those pages.
I thought I might have fixed the garbled text, but apparently not. Serves me right for coding on a computer that keeps on trying to put in Chinese characters every time I press shift!
