If you own a domain, please make sure you have the access on admin email as all the emails related to your domain ownership as registry key , transfer authorization are being made through your admin email mentioned in your Domain control panel.

It is recommended that you never give access your domain admin email to anyone else as it may results to fraudulent in case of heavy and branded domain.

Domain ownership is very important and you can only prove it by having the registrant details as yours. You need to check Whois in case you left doubted after registering the domain by a company on your behalf.

I have lost 5 quality domains and 2 years of work on them just because i did not had the ownership and the company had. I never knew these details are necessary like the OP has well described above. Everyone should double check the Whois data in case they are doubtful about the ownership.
