Hi

In my opinion both Hostgator and Bluehost are good web hosting services providers. However, i would suggest that you read customers reviews before choosing any web host.
Because, reviews may help you to get the experienced answers from a Real customers.

Any shared web hosting plan should work for you.
The best for YOU depends on your budget for web hosting and the specs you require (that's when comparing web hosts comes into play).

From your post, it sounded like you wanted a new web host while you're currently using a current web host [check the bold text from your quote].

From my experience with HostGator, my website went down every now and then (1 website with limited traffic).
If my website wasn't down, web pages from the website loaded slowly. It annoyed me to the point I canceled my hosting with them.

BlueHost - I've never tried 'em out, :p
But I highly recommend that you take a look at reviews from recent customers [look at dates] before choosing a web hosting company, ;)

What makes BlueHost more reliable?

I guess both of them are top companies, but each has its own pros and cons.
Earlier I thought that Hostgator uptime is perfect, but after reading some reviews I changed my mind.

Lately I came across an interesting review about Bluehost at WebhostingWatch and it changed my attitude to the company.

HostGator is the best around. Best customer service, best uptime. I will never change hosts again. Type webmasterserve in the coupon code box when ordering for a 25% Off Coupon for you! Cheers!

Please read maximum reviews about both the hosting providers and then decide. Reviews will prove the best host.

Hostgator is very good but they have complex verification system. Suppose, you have verified your paypal via VCC as in your country paypal is not supported. For you, hostgator is not a good option. You might check others like bluehost or ipage. I myself tried to host my site in hostgator but I faced difficulty as my paypal account is vcc verified and my name in my driving license and name in my paypal account are different, so it was not possible to host my website there. They refund my money and I host my website in ipage without any of these issues.

Let me introduce you the main cons and pros of Hostgator:

Full range of services: Shared, VPS, Dedicated
Guaranteed Uptime (includes compensation)

Cons:

Least reviews
Average tech support response time: Calls - 2 min, Live Chat - 2.30 min,
E-Mails - 6 hours
Average downtime - 145 min/mo

The company uptime rate is 97.78% .

The users of Hostgator more and more often admit that they are asked to upgrade to a higher plans after buying unlimited shared hosting packages, as these plans are not so unlimited as this is given on the main page of the company.
This is usually made when the guaranteed money back period is over. I found the following example in one of the feedbacks: " HostGator offer unlimited yearly plans which is clearly false advertising. The reason for this is that they start throttling your hosting service as soon as the money back Guarantee period has expired)."

In spite of these facts the company users mostly leave positive reviews on different forums, saying good words about the prices and the company discounts.

As for the server performance, the users say that sometimes Hostgator servers can be overloaded, but in this case the support team quickly resolves the problem by transferring the site to a different server.

I also know that the owner of the company personally corrects the work of the support department and can react to any abuse message quickly.

Speaking about Bluehost, we should say that this is a typical, supposedly unlimited, shared hosting provider. BlueHost hosting company is the perfect solution for small websites, but think twice if you plan to choose it for big projects.

WordPress recommendation and Anytime Money-Back Guarantee is definitely a plus, but Hosting security problems and Bad attitude towards users is not the company advantage.

The main company pros and cons will be given below:

Pros:

Mentioned on WordPress Hosting List
Anytime Money-Back Guarantee
Over 40 "How-To" videos and texts

Cons:

Low security against hacking (PHP settings error) (complaint at
webhostingreviews
Hosting may cancel subscriber's account without prior notice for storing archived files (ToS)
Doesn't provide backup; not responsible for data loss (ToS)

WebhostingWatch specialists analysed 200 sites in order to find out the real uptime rate of Bluehost hosting company. The results of the investigation can be see on the next picture:

You can now compare the uptime rates between Hostgator and Bluehost and make your decision.
