Distributed database model for database that are spread out over several systems, possible across a country, continent or planet. The limitations in the amount of memory, the number of hard disk drives which can be connected to it or the number of processor it can run in parallel can be managed by using distibuted database model.

You are right, The main advantage using distributed database is it provide flexibility to work from any system in the network. Its also provide the various transparency. So terminal user unaware from location of database resources . Terminal user seems like they work on the local database.
